QUALIFYING LIFE EVENTS | SPECIAL ENROLLMENT PERIODS

Certain life events may allow you to enroll in new coverage or modify current Marketplace health plans outside the annual Open Enrollment Period (November 1 — January 15):

The below life events allow for enrollment in a new Marketplace plan within 60 days of the life event date:

  • Involuntary Loss of Medicaid 

  • Involuntary Loss of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), also referred to as Medicaid

  • Involuntary Loss of coverage due to moving out-of-state

  • Involuntary Loss of coverage due to aging off parents plan at 26 years of age

  • Involuntary Loss of coverage due to moving out of the plans service area

  • Having a Baby

The below life events allow for enrollment in a new Marketplace plan within 60 days of the life event date as long as one of the applicants has not had a break in coverage greater than 63 days:

  • ​Getting Married - benefits take effect on the date your marriage certificate lists

  • Adoption - benefits take effect on the day adoption is finalized
